Since I moved to London, I begin to get interest to football, and of course the team I support is Arsenal for 2 reasons, the first is because of Arsene Wenger, the manager, he is french and he always tries to build a good team with what he had and he is the only person I understand clearly the englis on TV lol. The 2nd is of course most of the player are French, I have to support immigrant french like me in the UK!

What's your?

FC.Porto, not is just my hometown team as my grandfather was friends with some retired players and also an inspiration to me. Even so, I'm not much of a Soccer fan, I only watch a few games of Porto, but I won't miss a important game of my country no matter what.

I'm also a fan of Manchester United, for the reason some great portuguese players are there. I also admire the teamleadership and their acomplishments on the premier league(s). Next would be Arsenal and Barcelona.

Well, I dont really get to watch too many of the games, or get updates on how things are going in the european leagues, but the two team I really like are Chelsea and Bayern Munich. In the A-League(Aussies have 'football' also :p ) I go for the Melbourne Victory :D

The reason I like Chelsea, well...originally because I like the colour :p but now that I actually know something about football, I like them because of Ballack...hes my favourite player, and the reason I like Bayern is because the German ex-keeper Oliver Khan used to play for them, and he was I think my favourite keeper, that and Gemany is my favourite international team(Aus excluded) and the german players that I liked were in that team :p

I used to be really into my football. If I was to say a team that I support, it is Arsenal. But I have lost nearly all interest in football. I just think football is about business, and not about football. I also find the pay for a footballer ridiculous. They aint doing anything important like saving peoples lifes. It infuriates me. This is just my personal views on the matter of course. Everyone is entitled to watch/play/support football.

Football sends me to sleep.

Well u still counts as an Arsenal fan :D

Just have to say, thanks god for Robin Van Persie. Rescuing us right at the end there. I was almost in tears before that..

...still generally going to be very hard for us this season though -_-

Well...I guess that noone else follows the A-League  It isnt really all that big of a league either, right now there's only 8 teams, but next season there are 2 more teams being introduced, which will make the season longer and a bit more competative :)

Hey guys. We've got some cool teams on here. Big boys like Arsenal. Proper hometown teams like West Brom. Even the up and coming stars from down under. But with no mention of my beloved Liverpool I've had to join in.

Looks like it could be a good game tonight if the weather allows. Just hope we can stop that little Aussie nuisance Cahill from sneaking in and nicking another goal. He's one of those players that you'd love if he was playing for your team but hate when he's playing for someone else. Unlike players like Bellamy, Savage, Pennant, Diouf and Chimbonda who everybody hates.

How about a Premier League Hated 11 as chosen by us.

Goal - Lehmann (no longer in the Premier League but the memories of this nutter live on)
Defence - Terry
Defence -
Defence - Ashley Cole
Defence - Chimbonda
Midfield - Diouf
Midfield - Bowyer
Midfield -
Midfield -
Forward - Bellamy

There's a few to start with. Any suggestions?

Hey...for those who either play the FIFA or Soccer/Footbal games...or think they know a thing or two about the game, what formation is your most effective, or what would you think would be good?

On pretty much all soccer games, the formation that I use is a 3-5-2 field, with a wide passing style, and when it comes to defending...not applying pressure untill they make it into my defensive third. Sure sometimes they might get to the wings easier...but with the amount of midfielders that come back, its fairly easy to clog the passing lanes :)

Last night was another World Cup qualifier for Australia...and we versed Japan.
It was a pretty good game, it was obvious that Australia was playing for a draw...since the game was a very defensive one...but just remind me never to watch any world cup related games with my mum again. My god she does not shut the hell up!! <.<

Just saw you message about this GLP. You've got it sorted pretty well already. Always best to have an attacking formation in footy agmes as the focus is always on getting goals rather than defending. The only thing is to make sure you don't drag players out of position or you can get caught on the break. Always try to pass your way towards their goal and don't use one player for too long or he'll take ages to get back into position. It's also important not to tire out players in FIFA 09 so make sure you don't sprint too much. And most importantrly try to release sprint before you shoot as your shot at goal will be much more accurate. Hope the words of wisdom help.

LOL, either way, the match wasnt the most exciting of games...it ended up 0-0

The problem for the Aussie team is that the players have so far too travel for each game. They should try to have an Aussie based squad and a Europe based squad and organise frienlies in Europe for the Premier Legaue players and then get the Aussie based squad to play the easier qualifying games in Australia. It's no suprise why the Aussie players are always injured so much when they must be so tired and never get time to recover.

See my new avi - present from my beloved Gischie for Valentines day - Benzema 9 shirts!!! (except its Les Rouge not Les Bleu)

That's awesome. Just make sure you never wear that at Wembley or you'll never get out alive. You might want to burn it though if Man U ever sign Benzema.

I hope it won't happen, after Ribéry who went to Germany if Benzema would go to UK -_-, there would be no more good player at France and only in the national team (and managed by a silly guy, what's a shame!)

http://www.lepost.fr/article/2007/12/17/1069254_manchester-utd-offre-32-m-pour-benzema.html
For people who can read french, in this article, you can read clearly than Benzema will say "no" to manchester, he said he will leave Lyon team only when they will win the french première ligue!
The O.L. manager said, he prefers to keep Benzema and sell Baros!

That would be an alright idea, but the amount of really good players, who are at world cup standards, isnt all that good, and I think lately, due to injuries, we're finding it hard to get even one team of world-class players.

With that formation that I use, I sometime to get caught out while defending...there's a fair gap between the midfielders and the defenders, so when they get past the midfielders, I usually come up with one of the defenders, which just leaves a massive gap for them to run through...I need to work on that one :p but yeah, I try to pass it as much as I can in getting it towards goals, mainly because I cant be bothered to try and run it all the way ^.^

In the A-League, the Grand Final is next weekend, and its between the Melbourne Victory and the Adelaide Reds, and I really want the Victory to win, cause I really dont like Adelaide, and I dont think that will be a problem, seeing how they've beaten them 2 times in the past month ^.^

Tonight and tomorrow are the first rounds of the Champions League Knock-Out stages. Tonights matched are Arsenal v Roma and Inter v Man U. Tomorrow is is Liverpool v Real Madrid and Chelsea v Juventus (I'm not sure who is home and away in those ties).

gratz to Melbourne!

Well this weekemd I was at Arsenal v Fulham, which resulted in Arsenal's fourth 0-0 in a row which is quite rubbish. We created 3 clear chances but Van Persie missed 2 and hit the post with the other wtf

Alot of people in the Stadium were frustrated and booing at the end which is annoying to me but I guess understandable.

Luckily we have a chance to put things right on Tuesday away to West Brom.

Other than that Spurs lost the Carling Cup final to Man u on penalties lol.

Yeah, they have the goal advantage and home ground. Funnily though that Fergy never jumped in the air on that second goal of ours, his experience must've known not to get carried away (like their boss...)

What we need to do is give them a good scare at the start. Play and feed off their nerves.

Bah, the goal lead stolen from us...

I didnt see it all, but it looks like Ronney kept you in it and his first goal was pure luck as well.

Porto are good at home, trust me, look what they did to Arsenal in the group stages.

And in case you missed Ade's goal from last night for Arsenal: http://www.101greatgoals.com/videodisplay/2333568/

1-1 and back to the Emirates for the second leg.

LittleDragonZ
08-04-09, 12:46 PM
Rooney was focused last night, he knew exactly what he was doing, he deserved that first goal. And did very well with that back touch to Tevez for the second. He showed to Porto that he's a threat.

Ronaldo really barely had the ball...

Jas
08-04-09, 01:54 PM
LDZ that first goal was pure luck, but was good judgement from Rooney, Porto on the other hand played alot better than even i expected, and i'm an optimist. As in the other game Villarreal vs Arsenal, Villarreal dominated the first half, but Arsenal came back strong in the second half.

LittleDragonZ
08-04-09, 05:38 PM
That was the thing though, Rooney was entirely focused the whole game. And as you may know, the passing was dreadful in the first 20 mins or so.

LOL except he were not on the ball when he took that cross outside the line that one time. That was exhaustion.

On a side note, well done to Kiko for getting that goal at Sunderland. And on another side note, football means business, Gischie! Ah I can remember the feeling of the treble, getting those two late goals against Bayern Munich... One of the best days of my life...

Also it's not possible to have ''nice and fair'' in the Champions League. A little tap and the player is diving, it'll continue to be that. The refs are bias as well.

it's because of people like you that I hate football at France, they just make it so dirt.

Well I'm so glad United are in the Champions League Final now. The first goal was an error by a defender, the second was a blinder and perhaps iffy judgement from the keeper, and the third was the really deserved goal. But what was wrong was Fletcher being sent off, the bottom of his boot clipped the ball and pushed it away in another direction. So he got sent off and his dreams shattered from playing in the final...

Anyways United's early goals were what sealed it.

Matty1994

Too be fair When Man U face Tottenham, they got that lucky penalty for when Gomez got the ball and Carrick dived.

But in this game Fletcher did get the ball (by the way what a tackle!) but Fabregas dived and won the penalty, so i guess what comes around goes around, Man U are just luck that 1 it wasn't a big name player and 2 the goal didn't really matter

=P

LittleDragonZ
06-05-09, 04:09 PM
Yeah I did hear them often talk about how unlucky Arsenal were. It's was the lack of judgement the first two goals. The first the defender made a mistake and the second the keeper likely never expected a blast or just timed it wrong. It was the fact Ronaldo took the chance and hit it on target that mattered the most.

The third goal was probably the best and no questions about it having any excuses against it, as Ronaldo was crazy chasing that ball down.

Chelsea probably deserved it though, I think Barcelona only had a few shots, and their late equalizer was one of them. But yeah, Drogba did go all a bit crazy at the end, though I know he's always been like that. The press know that.

That ref had to be shifted out the country because of many death threats.

Jas
07-05-09, 06:07 PM
Barca had about 15 - 17 shots but only one on target, but i guess you only need to score 1 lol

now on the pens 1st one wasn't IMO was always a free kick, 2nd was a pen but barca didn't get there pen when Henry was pulled down by Bosingwa back in the first leg so it kinda evens out, 3rd pen was 50/50 to me, too fast for him to react, but he shouldn't have had hs hands up, so 50/50 for me. Ow and the gerard pique one wasn't IMO, he didn't really know much about it.

And i think it's pretty cheap to think that the match was fixed by UEFA, for shame

LittleDragonZ
07-05-09, 06:48 PM
Yeah, it really was. You could see Ronaldo's desire for it. He's a fantastic player, it's just that not many like him being big-headed, he even showed signs of show-boating versus Arsenal. Oh, and he's probably got many people frown at him because any player wants the FIFA award lol. But yeah, I would say it's his cockyness that goes overboard. It's like how I remember one of the commentators commenting on how he should be respectful to a beaten side, that's a prime example of him doing it.

Well when our previous game started, within the first few minutes Arsenal showed signs of ''Uh oh, this is gonna be gruesome.'' It's just that Park's goal made them all nervous and then Ronaldo pretty much sealed it moments after. I don't know why the keeper never got it, perhaps it was travelling too fast or just that he judged it wrong.

Hopefully the league game will be a good one.

17-06-09, 02:16 AM
Well the thing is, Gishie, that England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are different countries. The only problem is that they joined the olympic commission together as Great Britain. If the UK teams were to enter a GB team in the olympics, FIFA would use this as leverage to try and get them to field a UK team in the World Cup and Euro qualifiers, too. While it probably wouldn't bother England much, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland see this as a disaster situation because most, if not all, of the players from those countries would not be able to get into a UK team.

There would also be the issue that the Irish Football League, Scottish Premier Division and Welsh Premiership would also not get any teams allocated in the Champions League and UEFA Cup, and none of them would stand a chance of qualifying if they joined the English leagues. Even Celtic and Rangers would most likely be relegated from the English Premiership by the end of the first season, whether anyone from Glasgow(I have a feeling any Scotsman who isn't a Rangers or Celtic fan would admit this) likes it or not.

Great Britain is also a misued term. Great Britain is the name of the biggest of the British Isles. While all parts of it are in the United Kingdom, there are smaller islands and part of Ireland(Northern Ireland, as I mentioned) that is also part. I can only figure that it was for ease of use, as at the time it was "

Leady FF ^^

Well, I try to help as much as possible, but the reality of the matter is that I am in a Berwick, which is the most north point in England, so far north from the rest of England that we play in a Scottish division to save on travel expenses. A trip to Birmingham(the middle of England) would be a further journey for us than a trip to the Highlands. So if we were to draw against Portsmouth, the journey would just be too much for most people to endure.

You can imagine what away trips are like. 20 Englishmen in a crappy old stadium full of Scotsmen. Although we sometimes get a trip to Hampden(50,000 seats and he best facilities in Scotland... looks funny with 500 people in it) as Queen's Park own the stadium and the Scottish FA rent it for Scotland matches.

Well you bought the 23 year old from Ajax he play CB, now what you guys really need is a strong CM, someone who can dominate the midfield for you and who can protect your other players, like what Patrick Vieira use to do.

It's like Real Madrid when they lost Claude Makelele for 3 seasons we won nothing and when we finally found a replacement we started winning again ;) lol

Im not convinced on Vermulaen (sp?), he looks shorter - similar to Gallas or Toure to me. I think we need some bigger and scarier.

The season starts for me on Saturday!

We(Berwick) travel all the way to Stair Park, Stranraer for a Scottish Football League Challenge Cup 1st round match. I can't go because it's too far. There's no away fans team bus this season, plus the trains and normal buses stop before we could realistically make it back to Berwick.

I am exicited though and will be glued to the BBC website all afternoon waiting on the goal updates.

Yeah, well up here, unless you're in the Premier Division, it starts a week earlier, because the Football League Challenge 1st round is played on the Saturday before the first league round and the Scottish League Cup qualifying for non-Premier Division teams is played on the Tuesday before the first league round.

I can't go to either, but I now finally have something to do on Saturday afternoons again.

Lost 4-2 at Stranraer. Not just that, but apparently there were issues at half time with 2 men being sent off in the tunnel. I had a look for what happened, but it's such a low division no website reports on it other than goals and cards. :(

SunAndSteel
30-07-09, 09:29 AM
Never won a Champion's League away tie from what I remember, not unless you count beating Ajax away in the qualifiers back in '01. The last one we won away in Europe was indeed 6 years ago if I remember, sent SOuness' Blackburn packing. He was regretting the whole Men against Bhoys speech after that. :P

Liverpool and Boavista as well. But yeah, without an away win in Europe for 6 years and counting doesn't really bode well.

FatDave

The thing with the Celtic win over Blackburn was that Blackburn SHOULD have won in the first leg. It was kinda embarassing, really. Blackburn are ALWAYS crap in Europe, and the one time they played well and actually deserved to win, they basically let Celtic take it. Then, of course, after losing the first leg it was back to business as usual in the second leg.

Makes you wonder if Ewood is a cursed place for Europe? I don't pay too much attention to European football, but it always struck me as odd that Blackburn, even with a decent squad in their Premiership winning year, just can't play to their potential in European games.

Also; the thing with Celtic, they have a really bad disadvantage now. They are no longer seeded, they are in fact the opposite of seeded. The "weakest" team in the last round was Sivasspor, but you can't call them weak due to the fact they finished above both Galatasaray and Fenerbache to get this far, and if they get to the next round they will be facing either Arsenal, Lyonnais, Stuttgart, Fiorentina or Atlitico due to not being seeded. They really needed to win last season's Premier Division to have a decent chance of getting in.

And personally, I'd MUCH rather it been Celtic than Rangers. Although, tbh I'd much rather it be like Dundee United or Aberdeen, but I don't wanna get into an argument. It's not so much of wanting to see Rangers or Celtic fail, as much as it is I just wanna see someone different. Same goes for the "big four" in England. Never happen, but it's just my preference.

First relegation of the season and a ball hasn't even been kicked.

Livingston have today been relegated twice to the Scottish FL Third Division, to compensate, Airdrie United and Cowdenbeath have both been spared their relegations from last season.

What worries me is whether Livingston will be able to honour their fixtures. I mean when they visit the other Third Division sides, we'll see a big increase in crowds due to having a high-rep team visiting, but if they are to drop out due to financial difficulties, which looks likely, a 32 game schedule may put some more financial difficulties on everyone else.

First time I've selected a fantasy football team since '95. I must be getting old(well, not really, but I did say that I don't watch much TV football) as most of the players are unknown to me yet if you given me that list of guys from '95 I probably could've told you which team all of them played for. :p

I went more the medium route, no real big names except Carragher. I always believe you need at least one solid defender.

Well, it has an injury warning on your squad, and he didn't have one, so I guess he isn't. I seen him get taken off in a friendly the other day at a friend's house, but according to the commentator it was just a precaution.

On the Australian thing isn't there a senior squad wage limit(and also a max of how many youth players you can have at one time) that'd kinda render their money pointless? Well, except for the 2 Marquee players who don't count towards the wage limit.

I remember reading about that somewhere, although maybe the rules have changed for this season.

Arsenal were even that good yesterday... I'm not slagging off Arsenal, BTW, I have nowt against them, they didn't even need to play well. I could've scored past that Everton defence on more than one occasion, and I'm a 17 stone beastman. I've seen better defending than that in Scottish Third Division matches. I've maybe seen defending that bad twice in Premiership history.

Honestly, if I was Moyes, I'd've jumped ship by now. He's obviously getting no money off the board and a lot of the players would rather not be there.

Also; the "great" Man City, eh? I loved how they struggled, and were lucky, to overcome a Blackburn side with no real striker(McCarthy et all aren't good enough) and even being overcome at times. Blackburn only let down by having no one who could get their shots on target.

Did you see the Fabregas goal? He run 45 yards and not one of the Everton players even ATTEMPTED to stop him, except Falleni(I know I spelled both names wrong, I'm sorry :p) who was way too far behind to catch him. They just stood and watched like they were in the crowd when there was at least 3 guys who could've stepped in and stopped him. It was ridiculous. I know they'd already lost by that point, but honestly, at least try and keep the score down. The defending was pretty much like that on all the goals, too.

Seriously, if Arsenal were playing to their best it would've been a cricket score. They didn't even need to try.
